IONIA. Smyrna. Circa 2nd century BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 27 mm, 12.57 g, 12 h). Cista mystica from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. Two snakes coiled around a bow case; between the snake heads, monogram; to left, ΣΜΥΡ; to right, turreted head of city-godess to right; to upper right, A. BMC 1 var. (differing monogram). SNG von Aulock 2160. Extremely rare. Slight doubling on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
